This agreement is entered into by the City of Stockton (COS) and Central Veterinary Services (CVS), Stockton in the event that a dog or cat found in violation of the provisions of Article 2 is subject to impound by the city’s Animal Control Officer (ACO).
The terms of this agreement are as follows:
A. Records- A record shall be kept by the ACO of any dog or cat impounded by the COS and shall contain the following information:
• Color
• Height
• Weight
• Sex
• Identifying marks
• Registration # (if any)
• Date of impoundment
• Location of pickup
B. Central Veterinary Services agrees to accept impounded dogs or cats brought to its Stockton facility by Stockton’s ACO based on the following tem1s.
1. Impoundment is based on availability of space.
2. At the discretion CVS reserves the right to deny impound to any animal.
3. If the animal is received for impounding with a severe illness, disease or injury CVS will provide pain management until owner redeems the animal. If an animal in this condition is not redeemed in a timely manner CVS reserves the right to euthanize the animal for humane reasons.
4. CVS is not responsible for the outcome of any surgical or medical treatment provided to the animal while impounded at their facility.
C. Animal Pick-up When a dog or cat is impounded at CVS and the owner comes to redeem their animal, the following guidelines apply:
1. Stockton City Office -prior to pickup animal owner must provide the COS: (1) A current certificate of immunization against rabies and (2) Proof of current city registration for each animal request for pickup (If animal has no current vaccination or registration the owner may obtain these at their expense prior to pickup of their animal.)
2. CVS -Pickup from CVS will only be permissible during normal business hours or at the discretion of the CVS representative.
3. All fees associated with boarding the animal must be paid in full before CVS will release the animal. If owner fails to pay all fees, CVS reserves the right to hold the animal at the owner’s expense until all fees are paid.
D. Unclaimed animals - CVS will board a stray animal for a maximum of three (3) business days. After three days, if the animal is not claimed by its owner CVS will administer humane euthanasia.
E. Impound Fees - CVS will impose the following fees per stray animal boarded in their facility:
1. Dogs:
a) 20 lbs. or less - $20.00 per night
b) 21 to 50 lbs.. - $24.00 per night
c) 51 to 89 lbs. - $28.00 per night
d) Over 90 lbs. - $40.00 per night
2. Cats and ferrets - $16.00 per night
3. City Impound fee -The owner of a dog or cat impounded for running at large with or without a tag must pay the COS a $15.00 per day impound fee for the first offense, $25.00 for the second offense and $35.00 per day for all subsequent offenses. City Ordinance No, 1584, Section 4. (This fee is to be paid directly to the COS).
F. Pound/Shelter License - CVS understands that it must maintain a current Pound and Shelter License for the State of Kansas’ Department of Animal Health.
